KEYNOTE SESSION @ 11:00 AM

Fun-tastic Tips on Creating and Pitching Graphic Novels

Meet this year’s keynote speaker:

Rashad Doucet

Rashad Doucet is a New Orleans native who has been drawing comics since his grandma gave him a pencil and some paper to keep quiet during church. He is known for his work with Oni Press on comics like Invader Zim, Rick and Morty, and Alabaster Shadows. He has also worked with DC Comics, Stela, and won an Eisner Award for being part of the Elements: Fire Anthology.

Recently, he celebrated the release of his graphic novel series Pax Samson. Rashad is currently a professor of Sequential Art at the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) in Savannah, Georgia, where he can often be found listening to '80s City Pop music and watching way too much anime.

COMBAT DEMONSTRATION

SCA combat is an attempt to portray armored foot combat. The weapons are rattan, a bamboo-like material. It weighs the same as a real sword but has spring to absorb blow force. In the Middle Ages, wooden swords were used for training, which helped to prevent injury. SCA members use rattan for the same reason.

The Society for Creative Anachronism (SCA) is a not-for-profit educational organization dedicated to the study of the Middle Ages and the Renaissance.
